Building His Way to the Spotlight
Diondre “DJ” Owens may not be the first person you’d expect to say he’s chasing acting and modeling, but that contrast is exactly what makes his story compelling. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, on March 5, 1995, DJ spent his early years there before moving to Bakersfield, California, at eight years old. His path has been shaped by movement, reinvention, and a willingness to keep figuring out what fits—and what doesn’t.
In 2016, DJ moved back to Connecticut, where he spent time learning construction work alongside his father while also working at Walmart. It was a season that taught him discipline and resilience, but it also came with one major realization: he is not built for working in the snow. What had once felt magical as a kid quickly lost its charm when it became part of everyday adult life. Still, even in that chapter, DJ was learning more about himself and the kind of life he wanted to build.
In 2020, another pivot came when his sister encouraged him to move in with her and work at the Venice Whaler, where she was part of the management team. After a few months there, DJ returned to Bakersfield to be closer to his mother. Today, he works part-time at Lowe’s while continuing to dream bigger and build toward what’s next.
Outside of work, DJ’s world is powered by creativity and imagination. He’s into anime, video games, and designing projects with his 3-D printer—interests that reflect both his curiosity and his maker mindset. But the biggest surprise, he says, is the one most people don’t see coming: DJ wants to be an actor and model. It’s a goal that may not be obvious at first glance, but it’s one he’s serious about pursuing.
When it comes to the legacy he hopes to leave behind, DJ’s outlook is rooted in perseverance and generosity. He wants people to know that anything is possible if you keep evolving, keep learning, and never give up on reaching higher. And as important as ambition is to him, so is community. DJ believes that if you see someone who needs help, you should lend a hand—because success means more when you bring others with you.
As for the dream role? DJ already has it mapped out. His ultimate goal is to become the first live-action Static Shock, with another iconic possibility on the list too: becoming a Power Ranger. Big dreams, yes—but if his story proves anything, it’s that DJ is willing to keep adapting, growing, and showing up until the right opportunity finds him.
