The Professional Dreamer
Every child spends part of their life pretending. They become pirates.
Astronauts. Knights. Wizards. Explorers.
Most of us eventually grow up.
Steve N. Bradford simply figured out how to make a career out of never losing that sense of wonder. Actor. Professional Dungeon Master. Veterinary technician.
Science enthusiast. Immersive theater creator. Nature photographer. Educator. Storyteller.
At first glance, those careers seem unrelated. Spend an hour talking with Steve, however, and a single thread connects every one of them. Curiosity.
His work has never really been about fantasy. It’s about giving people permission to imagine. And then helping them discover something about themselves along the way.
The Game That Changed Everything
Steve was only ten years old when a friend introduced him to Dungeons & Dragons. To most people, it looked like a complicated tabletop game filled with strange rule books, imaginary creatures, and twenty-sided dice.
To Steve… It became his first acting class.
Long before auditions. Long before Shakespeare. Long before professional film work.
He was already learning improvisation. Every campaign asked the same question actors eventually face.
“Given these circumstances… what would this character do?”
Not what you would do. What they would do. That subtle shift transformed a childhood hobby into an education in empathy, storytelling, collaboration, and performance. Looking back, Steve credits those early adventures with laying the groundwork for everything that followed.
Eventually, he carried those skills onto the stage, performing Shakespeare while discovering that the same instincts guiding a fantasy hero also helped bring centuries-old characters to life.
Improvisation wasn’t separate from acting. It was acting.
“What if the greatest education you’ll ever receive doesn’t happen inside a classroom—but around a table with a twenty-sided die?”
THE MANY WORLDS OF STEVE BRADFORD
The Actor
A professional performer whose latest feature film, Director’s Commentary, recently celebrated its world premiere, with Steve portraying filmmaker Kevin Smith.
The Professional Dungeon Master
Designs immersive role-playing adventures that combine storytelling, improvisation, education, and community building.
The Scientist
A biology graduate, veterinary technician, former biomedical researcher, and lifelong student of ecology who has traveled the world in pursuit of knowledge.
The Educator
Believes entertainment is most powerful when it quietly teaches people something new without them realizing they’re learning.
When Science Meets Storytelling
Steve’s day job might surprise people.
When he’s not creating fantasy worlds, he’s caring for very real ones.
As a veterinary technician, former biomedical researcher, and lifelong biology enthusiast, he spends his days grounded in science. He’s traveled internationally studying wildlife, ecology, and conservation—not because he had to, but because understanding the natural world makes him a better storyteller.
His philosophy is wonderfully simple.
If you’re going to write about the world…
Go experience it first. That same curiosity fuels everything he creates, from fantasy campaigns inspired by real ecosystems to villains modeled after environmental threats rather than mythical monsters. Because sometimes…
Saving an imaginary kingdom can inspire someone to care more deeply about the real one.
Teaching Without a Classroom
Steve N. Bradford has a confession.
He loves tricking people. Not into buying something. Not into believing something.
Into learning.
“I love tricking people into learning and tricking them into being a little bit better people,” he says with a grin. “You offer them entertainment… then you sneak in an ecological concept or a piece of knowledge.” That’s the magic behind everything he creates.
“There isn’t really a way to win Dungeons & Dragons. There are only choices.”
Whether he’s leading a group through a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, writing stories, performing on stage, or teaching students, education is always hiding beneath the adventure. One session might send players battling mythical creatures.
Another might quietly teach them about endangered species. Instead of inventing monsters, Steve often turns real environmental challenges into unforgettable adventures.
Poachers become villains. Endangered ecosystems become kingdoms worth protecting.Suddenly, conservation isn’t a lecture. It’s a quest. And that’s exactly the point.
BUILDING WORLDS…AND COMMUNITIES
Steve’s campaigns aren’t simply games.
They’re communities. Some adventures last one afternoon. Others continue for years. Players return every week, reconnecting with friends, solving problems together, and building stories that evolve over months—or even years.
For Steve, the greatest reward isn’t defeating dragons.
It’s watching strangers become lifelong friends. Whether the games happen around a physical table or online through Discord, they offer something increasingly rare in today’s world: genuine human connection through shared imagination.
Improvisation Is a Life Skill
Ask Steve what makes a great Dungeon Master, and he’ll likely describe the same qualities that make a great actor.
Listen. Adapt. Support your scene partners. Say “yes” to possibility.
Years performing immersive theater taught him that audiences don’t simply want to watch stories—they want to participate in them.
That philosophy now shapes everything he creates. Whether performing for hundreds inside a theater or guiding four players through an imaginary kingdom, the responsibility remains the same.
Create a space where people feel safe enough to play. Safe enough to fail.
Safe enough to imagine.
That’s when the real magic happens.
“I love tricking people into learning.”
FROM HOLLYWOOD TO FANTASY WORLDS
While Steve’s role-playing adventures continue growing, so does his acting career. His latest feature film, Director’s Commentary, recently celebrated its world premiere at the Dances With Films Festival in Hollywood.
In the romantic comedy, Steve takes on the role of filmmaker Kevin Smith—a fitting casting choice for someone whose own career has become a celebration of creativity and storytelling.
The film follows a man navigating heartbreak through the director commentaries of his favorite movies, where legendary filmmakers unexpectedly begin helping him rewrite his own life.
It’s a premise that feels surprisingly familiar. Because Steve has spent his entire career helping people rewrite their own stories—one adventure at a time.

Why Play Still Matters
As adults, many of us quietly abandon imagination.
Responsibilities replace curiosity.
Schedules replace spontaneity.
Wonder gets pushed aside.
Steve Bradford believes something important is lost when that happens.
Through acting, science, education, and role-playing, he’s built an unconventional career around a simple idea:
Play isn’t childish.
It’s essential.
It’s how people connect.
How they solve problems.
How they discover empathy.
How they become better storytellers—and perhaps even better versions of themselves.
EDITOR’S REFLECTION
Steve N. Bradford defies every label.
He’s not simply an actor.
Not simply a scientist.
Not simply a Dungeon Master.
He’s a world builder.
Someone who understands that stories have the power to educate without preaching, inspire without lecturing, and unite people who might otherwise never meet.
In an era where imagination often competes with distraction, Steve reminds us that creativity is more than entertainment.
It’s a way of understanding each other.
And sometimes, all it takes to change someone’s perspective…
…is inviting them to roll the dice.
“Entertainment is the invitation. Learning is the surprise.”
